This department is the first optometry department in Taiwan affiliated with a medical school. It integrates basic science, basic medicine, clinical optometry, and interdisciplinary courses to cultivate optometry professionals with the dedication of Dr. Mackay's physicians, providing students with a holistic medical education that addresses the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of the individual.

The Department of Optometry at Mackay Medical College integrates clinical resources from the four campuses of Mackay Memorial Hospital, expanding research in biomedical and visual science fields. It offers interdisciplinary courses such as optometric medical device optical design and application, and optometric medical engineering, enhancing students' professional skills and developing second specialties. The goal is to cultivate students into professional optometrists and medical research talents in optometry and optical materials.
